CHST exam cost, fees and scheduling

The CHST exam fee is $300, and the application fee is $140, on BCSP's credentials at-a-glance sheet read on 24 Oct 2026. BCSP says fees can change without advance notice, so check the current figures before you pay. This page covers the national CHST only.

What each fee is

ItemPrice on BCSP's sheet
Application fee$140
Exam fee$300
Application and exam combined$426
Exam bundle (two attempts, one free self-assessment, six months of access)$550
Application and exam bundle combined$676
Eligibility extension fee$100
Renewal fee$150

Paying the application and exam together costs $14 less than paying them separately ($426 against $440). The bundle puts two exam attempts at $550, which is $50 less than two single exams at $300 each. It only helps if you expect to use the second attempt. The extension and renewal fees are covered below.

Emergency Preparedness, Incident Investigation, and Response

On a building under construction, what is the longest allowed travel distance from any point of the protected area to the nearest fire extinguisher?

Choose an answer to begin

Your one-year window

After BCSP approves your application, you have one year to schedule and pass the exam. If you are within 60 or fewer days of that deadline, BCSP lets you pay a one-time eligibility extension fee, listed at $100, for one more year. Decide your date from your practice scores, not from the calendar: the study guide builds a six-week plan you can run inside the window.

Where and how you test

The CHST is computer-based at Pearson test centers, and you get 4 hours. Follow BCSP's approval message and your Pearson booking confirmation for the booking steps and for what you may bring, and read both end to end. Match the name on your booking to your ID exactly as the confirmation asks. We do not guess at ID, check-in or break rules.

What retakes cost

BCSP asks you to wait at least six weeks after your last attempt before testing again. Plan for a new exam fee on a retake unless BCSP tells you otherwise, and confirm before you book. The results and retakes guide covers what to do between attempts.

What the fee does not cover

The exam fee is the cost of one sitting. Your study materials, any training your employer does not pay for and travel to the test center are separate. If you are weighing CHST against another BCSP exam, the CHST vs CSP vs ASP guide puts the fees side by side. To see how study options compare, read the CHST study options comparison.
